Like many people, I have a love/hate relationship with social media. I enjoy going on Facebook or Instagram to get caught up with pictures from extended family and I love it. But then I find there are days I get caught up in scrolling, and half an hour disappears from my life that I will never get back again! At times like that I hate social media. Like everything, it needs to be used in moderation.
Our clinic has a Facebook page called Shaughnessy Wellness. “Like” it if you’re on Facebook. We also have an Instagram page @ WellnessFamilyCare. I post things that relate to our health to make you go “Hmmm”, like the cartoon at the top of this article. The goal was to remind ourselves that in our fast paced society, we are often looking for quick fixes and we don’t invest in the lifestyle changes that can lead to lasting growth that is not accompanied by negative side effects.
Sometimes humour helps us to notice something about ourselves and make a point. I quite enjoy a little sarcastic humour and will post things on our page that strike me as funny like the post shown here above. It still has an element of health news to it (Laughing really is good for you!) but it makes you smile. Sometimes a post can make you think, and remind you that your situation is temporary, like the post below. Our current situation does not need to be our final destination, and it is good to be reminded of that.
On a side note, for those of you that are married (or in a relationship) Jane and I have started a Facebook group called “Couples Doing Life”. It has helpful and sometimes humorous posts about relationships. As with our health and wellness, being intentional in our relationships is important for the growth and well-being of that relationship. Being part of this Facebook group is to provide community to help promote intentional relationships. If you would like to join, search “Couples Doing Life” on Facebook or email/message me and I will send you a link to join or check it out.
Of course, as I chiropractor, I will also remind you that all our social media usage needs to be with proper posture- when you spend hours looking at your phone or computer with bad posture- you will earn extra opportunities to visit me to work on that “Text Neck” and all the symptoms that accompany it! Scroll responsibly!!! 🙂
