We have just enjoyed our fourth annual “Celebrating Wellness Day”. There was food and fun, and a party to celebrate the launching of Dr. Ivey’s book “Handbook 2 Health”!!!
Madeline won a copy of the book, but anyone can get this as a free ebook by contacting the office.
29 members of our practice and community came out for complimentary chiropractic visits and classes in Yoga and Pilates.
As in previous years, the “Celebrating Wellness Day” was sponsoring a local charity, EVA’S PLACE, a homeless shelter for youth located just south of us. Many thanks to all those that donated cash and items useful at the shetler.
We had door prizes at the event. Thank you to our generous sponsors that joined us in donating prizes: Lole Clothing at Bayview Village, Hearty Catering Cafe at Sheppard & Leslie, and Scott Mackenzie, local realtor.

At the event, we served home-made granola bars and banana bread. These are the only 2 things that I can bake, but according to the reviews, I have gotten pretty good at it over the years. There were a number of requests for the recipes, so you will find them at the bottom of this post.
It is good to do things that push us, and that give back to the community. We had fun and are already looking forward to next year!

“Hawaiian” Banana Bread (and no, I don’t know why it is called Hawaiian)
Cream 2 cups sugar with 1 cup butter
mix in 6 ripe mashed bananas and 4 beaten eggs
stir in (2.5 cups sifted flour, 1 tsp salt and 2 tsp baking soda) don’t over mix.
place in loaf pan and bake at 350 til brown (50 minutes?)
Chewy Granola Bars
Wet ingredients: 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup brown rice syrop, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup tahini & 2 tsp vanilla extract
Dry ingredients: 1/2 cup seeds (mix of sunflower, pumpkin & sesame), 1.5 cup quick oats, 1.5 cups crisped rice, 1/2 cup grated coconut, 1/3 cup flax meal.
Mix wet ingredients and dry ingredients separately. Then mix them together and stir in 1/2 cup of mini chocolate chips. Press down in baking pan (9×12) and bake at 350 until golden brown. (20 + minutes)
Both recipes freeze well and can be doubled or tripled (I like to bake once a year!). Both can use parchment paper (the most fantastice invention ever!) to make them come out of the pan easily and make the pan easy to wash. There you go, all my baking secrets at your disposal.
